Many systems/processes behave like a constant factor. See for instance the lever construction in figure 4.1a or the gear train rotational transformer of figure 4.1b. But the resistor network of figure 4.1c is also a constant factor process.
The output signal in all these systems has exactly the same shape as the input signal; only the magnitude and polarity can differ. There is no transient or time delay.
